RADF, ARTS COUNCIL QLD, GRAGM, cultural history projectFOOTSTEPS & FOOTPRINTS REMEMBERS Kevin Williams

 surfer and artist

Kevin  travelled from Rockhampton to Agnes Water to surf He created art on surfboards.

Notes : Kevin “… first started surfing 31 years ago, 1972 age 18. Not many Aboriginal people were widely known to surf nor is there any documentation linking Aboriginal and surf culture around that time.

This artwork is only one of two that he has done to date. With this particular work he wanted to produce something that was representative of surf culture, the use of bright, vibrant colours which we see as representational of beach and surf products. Living at Rockhampton Kevin used to surf at a place called Agnes Waters which is in from Miriam Vale, 107 miles south of Rockhampton on land which is traditionally Korang Gorang (Bundaberg), South and North from there is his traditional lands (Wakka Wakka).”
